One of Portland's many nicknames, Rip City, was coined by NBA announcer Bill Schonely during a riveting 1971, first-season Trail Blazers game. Excited by an "ill-advised long-distance shot" (Wiki) by guard Jim Barnett, Schonely exclaimed "Rip City! All right!" when the basket was successful. This would be the junior version, Crib City, in a onesie, all right!
